How do you show up? This is a question I often ask people because it reflects the impact that they are going to make in the lives of others. Some people just show up in the nick of time. This had me thinking about a recent visit that my wife and I had to a restaurant. We went to a place called The Little Village Café in Baraboo, WI.
We called ahead to make a reservation. We thought it would be extremely busy, and we wanted to make certain that we would have a table when we got there. If you want a cool experience, I recommend that you go to The Little Village Café in Baraboo. When we arrived, we went to the Hostess desk to give our names and we had arrived at exactly the appointed time that our reservation was to begin. They said they had our table ready. As the Hostess walked us to our table to be seated, I realized that the menus were already exactly where we were going to be seated, and they already had ice water sitting right next to the menus. They were ready for us at the very moment that we were to arrive.
The question is: Are you ready? Are you ready for whatever is going to be happening in your life? I remember when I had my very first job when I was in my 20s. I remember showing up 15 minutes before I needed to begin my job so I could get everything situated so at exactly the appointed time that my job was to begin, I was ready to start. I wasn’t getting a cup of coffee. I wasn’t coming through the door. I was totally engaged. I was ready.
Are you ready? Are you thinking ahead and prepared? This is the way that our team works. This is what we are focused on. Often, people will come to us about things like retirement, financial planning, or managing their retirement accounts, but they might come ill-prepared; not having account statements or copies of the retirement plan through work that they wish to discuss. They must think that it’s magically going to come together. Here’s the thing: you must be prepared in everything that you do. If there’s a task that needs to be done, prepare. If there is a goal that you want fulfilled, prepare. If you want to get from point A to point B, prepare. Be ready. Just as if you were The Little Village Café in Baraboo, WI. We made reservations. We showed up on time, and they were ready for us.
