I'm scheduled to receive my second Covid-19 shot tomorrow. The big question most people ask me, is which one am I getting? The first jab was the Moderna. So this one should be, as well. There are different thoughts about vaccines, whether to get one, whether not to. Our family decided that it was the right choice for us; so, did my folks and my siblings. So, now what?
For many of us, it means rescheduling overdue dental appointments, eye exams and annual physicals which have been delayed more than a year. It also means to slowly reintegrate into some kind of a normal life once more; but slowly, ever so slowly.
What have I learned over the past year? A word that strikes me the most is “discipline”. When it comes to money, we all know that it takes discipline – discipline to make it, to save it, to commit it to the future, to keep our hands off of it when we would like to use it for other things than for its original intentions for the future. When we have money, we also need a sense of discipline to achieve what we really want for the future.
During the past year, we’ve seen how discipline has worked out for those who were required to change their lifestyles during the pandemic. For many, they endured discipline and simply did as required and for many it was very difficult to accommodate any discipline at all.
What does that say for you and I? My son jokingly said my wife and I must have saved a boatload of money during the pandemic. Why did you say that? I asked. Because you haven’t gone out to a restaurant in months, was his reply; that must have taken a lot of discipline, he continued. To be fair, we have done a lot of curbside restaurant pick-ups.
What has this past year taught you about discipline, about your discipline? It’s been a real test and one that has yet to end…..it’s been a lot of ‘you can’t do this or you can’t do that’.
For the time being, in our office, we’re phoning and zooming and waiting for the appropriate time to engage face-to-face; but, many of our clients realize just how freeing working virtually with us has actually been for them; concise appointments and the same good service. Many folks didn’t realize that we’ve offered video appointments already, for over a decade and a half. We had been training for the pandemic for years and didn’t even know it; and now we have expanded our reach to working with friends and extended-family of our clients, nationwide in multiple time zones.
So, stay tuned. Stay patience and stay disciplined.
